Getting Ready for our Italian adventure
Ciao,
We're getting ready for another travel adventure. We're heading to Turin (Torino in Italian) on Monday October 3, arriving on October 4. We return to Toronto from Bologna on October 28. We are flying through Paris both ways.
We start our trip with nine nights in Torino in the Piedmont region, a new destination for us. Torino was once the seat of the House of Savoy and was the first capital of unified Italy from 1861-1865. It has been called the Paris of Italy and features baroque architecture with 163 piazza and 18 km of porticoes. A foodie haven--- vermouth originated in Turin and it is the birthplace of solid chocolate, produced in Torino before Switzerland. There are many cafés, museums and galleries and spectacular views of the Alps. It is the fourth largest city in Italy.

We will then go to Alba for four nights. Perfect timing to attend the Alba International White Truffle Fair which takes place from October-December each year.

Then we will travel to Genoa (Genova in Italian) for six nights. Genova is the capital of the Liguria region. We will definitely be doing a day trip to Portofino (we recently saw Hotel Portofino and got enamoured with the beautiful village).

As always, Allan will be "Alonso" in Italy. We will be staying in Airbnbs in each of the four cities and travelling between them by bus or train. Our longest train ride will be around three hours, so all very manageable.
We are looking forward to exploring a part of Italy we have not visited before. Lots of great food, culture, spectacular architecture and art, and of course lots of coffee!
Please check our blog from time to time to follow our adventure. I'll most likely do the first post from Torino on Wednesday October 5, once we have a chance to settle in.

Amazing pics of art, architecture and food! Interesting histories too.
